2 Hip Chicks

I always dreamed of living on a farm, but it's not so bad being a City Chick anymore..........now that I have fresh eggs everyday!

We were able to squeeze these very comfotable living quarters in the corner of the yard, that once was an eye sore, but is now a cozy looking coop. All the wood was salvaged, so it was very inexpensive to build.

Meet Buella, and Henrietta. Each lays a different color egg everyday; brown and pink.

Bueller is a Barred Rock, very friendly and trusting.

Henrietta is an Ameraucanas. She is the mother hen. Always the first to roost at night. Her eggs are an unusual pale pink color.

WARNING - PROTECT YOUR TOMATOES

May 28, 2006 - so the chickens like tomato plants, go figure. Seems like they are recovering, already new growth down below, where the damage was done just one week ago.

My interest was peaked after picking up a book on display in my library called, "Keeping Chickens". Within two weeks I had my chickens! I always wanted them, but didn't think I could living here. Now I know different..........and everyone should keep chickens.
I was scared at first, but quickly learned they are so easy. I imagined having to chase them into their coop at night, but they actually have gone to roost on their own since day one. If I'm not going to be home, I just have a neighbor shut the door (racoons).

We love them, they are beautiful, and bring our yard to life. Each lays 1 egg per day, I never have more then a dozen in the refridgerator.
