Seed Sowing for Fall
I decided to have a small winter garden, with Swiss Chard and Cauliflower this year, in addition to the usual Lettuces and edible flowers, and Fava beans for cover crop.
Swiss Chard 1st flat (Sown in Mid July)Seeds were broadcast directly into this 1st flat.
Swiss Chard 2nd flatSwiss Chard is transplanted into this 2nd flat, on 1-2" inch spacing on the diagional. I will keep these on the potting table, in partial shade, for a few days.
Lettuce's 2nd flat (back)Lettuce's transplanted into 2nd flat, on 1 -2" spacing on the diagional. I will store them on the picnic table, protected from August heat, under the partial shade of the pergola for a few days. I also used this netting, normally used for covering food dishes when eating outdoors, but even better used for protecting my seedlings from cats, etc.
